January 18, Fineko/abc.az. President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus stated he was not against creation of a single currency in the Union State, but, in his opinion, it should not be the Russian currency.

BelTA agency reports that the statement was made by the Belarusian president on Friday at a meeting on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian diplomatic service.

"We are not against the common currency, but it should be the common currency, not the currency of the Central Bank of Russia. There should be an emission center created on equal terms. If you bring the EU as an example, well, on the principles of the European Union. But both conditions and approach should be equal," BelTA quotes the Belarusian leader.

According to Lukashenko, Belarusian authorities are ready to unify the tax and customs policy.

"Do you want to unify tax and customs policy? I agree, I said the same last time: but on the best traditions and conditions, we will take the best from Belarusians and Russians. But not so: we are big, you are small, let's do as we do," the head of the Belarusian state said.

Lukashenko said that Belarusian authorities are not against the alliance of the two countries.

"The alliance is possible, but only people should decide on the occasion, not us. We do not refuse from any thesis," Lukashenko said.
