Bakcell announces the appointment of new Chief Executive Officer

April 16, Fineko/abc.az. Bakcell, the First Mobile Operator and the Fastest Mobile Internet Provider of Azerbaijan announced that Mr. Rainer Rathgeber will be appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of the company. He will assume the office after all the relevant procedures are completed during the next month.

With 20 years of extensive experience in the area of telecommunications, Mr. Rathgeber has held various senior management positions in European and Asian countries. Thus he held leading roles in Deutsche Telekom AG, as senior vice president in T-Mobile International AG, CEO of T-Mobile Croatia and COO Mobile of Croatian Telekom, and as a member of the Board of Directors of OTE Group Greece and Romtelecom Romania. He was also Chief Commercial Officer at Etisalat Group in Abu Dhabi, member of the board of directors of EMTS in Nigeria and PTCL and Ufone in Pakistan, CEO of Ufone, Pakistan and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ubank, Pakistan (part of PTCL group).

Mr. Nikolai Beckers, who led Bakcell as its CEO in the period from May 2016 to April 2019, contributed to the company’s successful operations. During these years, Bakcell reinforced its position in the telecommunications market of Azerbaijan.

Bakcell is the first company in Azerbaijan to provide mobile communication services. Today, the company’s 4G network covers central parts of more than 40 regions and cities of the country, including the entire territory of Baku and Absheron peninsula. With more than 7000 base stations, Bakcell network covers 99% of the country’s population and 93% of the country’s territory (except for the occupied territories).
