Fimsa stops international card operations in Nagorno Karabakh

July 5, Fineko/abc.az. The Financial Market Supervision Authority (Fimsa) prevented the attempt of illegal fund-raising, and service of banks in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

Fimsa reports that the official website of the "Ministry of Finance of the self-proclaimed Nagorno Karabakh Republic", created in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, collected funds.

"Fimsa revealed the facts of service of payment cards operating under the brands of international payment systems. In addition, the official website of the "Ministry of Finance of the self-proclaimed Nagorno Karabakh Republic", created in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, collected funds. This violates both the sovereignty of Azerbaijan and international legal norms and requirements of international card systems," the message reads.

In this regard, Fimsa’s experts held a meeting with representatives of Visa and MasterCard, which informed them of the above-said facts.

"As a result of relevant measures and cooperation with payment companies, the collection of funds announced on the website of the “Ministry of Finance”, as well as the servicing of cards of a number of banks in this territory were stopped," Fimsa informed.
