ADB: $820 million can be invested in sovereign operations in Azerbaijan in next 3 years

July 30, Fineko/abc.az. In 2020-22, due to possible indicative resources, the total volume of sovereign operations may amount to $820 million, says Business Plan 2020-22, announced by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Azerbaijan.

The 3-year Business Plan has been approved today by the ADB Board of Directors. These funds also include co-financing and other resources raised from sources.

ADB can give loans to Azerbaijan in the amount of $265 million in 2020, $30 million in 2021, and $450 million in 2022 for four projects in the field of energy, education, infrastructure improvement and public administration efficiency. Government's stake in the project to be implemented in 2022 will reach $67 million.

In addition, technical support for $5.8 million will be provided in the next three years.

Initially, the Bank expected to give one loan in the amount of $250 million for 2019 and five technical support projects in the amount of $3.2 million (improving the efficiency of the public sector, supporting public sector management, strengthening tax policy and management, promoting sustainable energy sector and developing irrigation and drainage systems in Nakhchivan).

ADB will give to Azerbaijan the loans on two main indicators in 2020-22 for totally $295 million. The first loan is directed for the project of the management of the public sector and the second one for the financial sector.

It is expected giving of loans in the amount of $265 million for the project on improvement of the efficiency of the public sector and $30 million for a project on acceleration of development of the private sector.

Azerbaijan has been an ADB member since 1999, and so far the Bank has given loans to Azerbaijan for $4.19 bn.
