Most transactions in interbank currency market conducted in US dollars

August 14, Fineko/abc.az. For the past half-year 94% of transactions on the interbank currency market were conducted in US dollars, 5% in euros, in pound sterlings, in Russian rubles, and 1% in other currencies, says the review of Central bank’s monetary policy for Jan-Jun 2019.

According to the review, the turnover of foreign exchange transactions was formed mainly due to operations on the Bloomberg platform.

The currency transactions in the domestic currency market amounted to $8 bn, and 75% of them were transactions with the US dollar. 91.1% of currency transactions in the domestic currency market are foreign exchange transactions with legal entities.

The operations on purchase and sale of foreign currency by banks for Jan-Jun 2019 reached $2.7 bn. Of them, $2.1 bn or 77.8% were transactions in US dollars.
