Turkish president calls to recognize East Jerusalem the occupied capital of Palestinian State

December 13, Fineko/abc.az. The appeal to recognize East Jerusalem as the occupied capital of Palestine has been included in the text of the final statement of the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul.

At the opening of the summit in Istanbul on Wednesday Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan applied to all countries with a proposal to recognize East Jerusalem as the occupied capital of the Palestinian State.

The summit is convened in connection with the decision of US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Erdogan called this decision of Trump as illegal.

"This move of the US president is an attempt to punish the Palestinian people, which has opposed for decades to the Israeli policy of occupation," Erdogan underlined.

Mr. Erdogan stressed that Muslim countries do their best to ensure that the Palestinian state would fully represented in the diplomatic sphere.

"The countries which have not yet recognized the Palestinian State need to take this step, which is important for ensuring the balance of power and justice in the region. As the OIC current chairman I appeal the US for speedy revision of a very wrong, provocative and illegal step taken by Washington," the Turkish president stated.
