December 15, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov has met with Baroness Rona Fairhead, the UK Minister of State for Trade & Export Promotion and co-chair of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission.

The Ministry of Energy reports that Azerbaijan and the UK consider cooperation on renewable energy sources.

“The sides discussed the relationships between Azerbaijan and the UK in energy sector and prospects of cooperation on renewable energy sources,” the Ministry said.

Shahbazov acclaimed the UK activity as partner and main investor in energy sector of Azerbaijan during the first years of independence. They highly appreciated the successful model of cooperation established in a sample of the BP.

The implementation of Shah Deniz 2 project and extension of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli agreement ensures the long term interests of both countries.

UK Minister for Trade & Export Promotion expressed the support of her government for projects implemented in energy sector of Azerbaijan with participation of BP and completion of South Gas Corridor (SGC) project.

The energy minister noted that oil & gas sector has been taking leading positions in the economy for many years, however, currently reforms are underway to diversify the domestic economy and develop the non-oil sector.

The parties exchanged views on important questions on other energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UK.
