Monopoly not to be eliminated in Azerbaijan until there are civil servant-businessmen - Vahid Akhmedov

13:31 - 30.10.2019

October 30, Fineko/abc.az. Monopoly will hardly be abolished in Azerbaijan until oligarchs civil servants exist in the country. First, we should eliminate that. If you are a functionary, you go and engage in officialdom, represent yourself in the executive body, and receive a salary. And if you have to do business, you have to resign and do business.

ABC.AZ reports that the relevant statement was made by MP Vahid Akhmedov, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy, Industry & Entrepreneurship, in broadcast "Focus-Result" of TV channel OTV.

Speaking about the Competition Code, which cannot be adopted for many years, the Deputy noted the factors that prevent the adoption of this document: "Milli Majlis has been failing to pass the Competition Code for 17 years. So, 10 years ago we brought this question to the plenary session of the parliament. We adopted it during the first two readings. But failed to bring it to the third reading. They didn't allow its bringing to the meeting. I raised this matter every time a parliamentary session begins. I also raise the issues of Competition Code adoption in the press. Functionaries, oligarchs, and persons who are now engaged in monopolism, do not allow the adoption of this code.

The country’s president included the Competition Code with monopolism in Strategic Roadmap 2019-20. There is a hope that we’ll adopt this code, if not this year, then next year," Akhmedov promised.
