April 8, Fineko/abc.az. The rules for those who want to obtain Russian citizenship are being simplified. The Russian State Duma is preparing to discuss a new draft law on simplifying the acquisition of citizenship.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the Russian media that if the draft law is adopted, the foreigners wishing to obtain Russian citizenship may not renounce their existing citizenship.

Thus, according to the current legislation, the foreigners living in this territory can obtain citizenship within five years from the date of applying for citizenship or temporary residence permit in Russia. According to the new draft law, persons who have reached the age of 18 and do not have citizenship, if they were citizens of the USSR, lived in states that were part of the USSR, and did not receive citizenship of these states, can use the simplified procedure.

Also, if persons temporarily or permanently residing in the territory of the Russian Federation are married to a citizen of the Russian Federation residing in the territory of the country and have children from this marriage, they can also obtain citizenship.
