Are borders of Europe under closing again?

12:03 - 5.08.2020

August 5, Fineko/abc.az. The issue of closing of borders in connection with the resumption of the rate of spread of coronavirus infection in Europe may be reconsidered.

ABC.AZ reports that such a statement was made by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.

The head of state stressed that decisions on border closures should be taken jointly by the EU member states: “The next stage should be the issue of border control that should be resolved at the pan-European level. We are witnessing a tightening of the internal quarantine regime in many EU countries, and we’ll probably have to discuss the question of border closures again.”

According to the president, if the entry of French tourists to Lithuania was allowed in the previous order on the condition of their stay in two-week self-isolation, then entry into the country from Malta is prohibited. Currently, there are no restrictions on entry to Lithuania for citizens of Poland, the Netherlands, great Britain, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Denmark, Iceland, Germany, Ireland, Cyprus, Slovakia, Italy, Greece, Norway, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, and Hungary. Other foreigners are not allowed to enter the country, regardless of a number of exceptions provided by the government.
