Azerbaijan projects are nominated for the 7th UN ITU - WSIS-2018 contest

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), the annual UN summit, has aanounced the list of nominees for WSIS-2018 Prizes.  The World Summit on the Information Society is United Nations-sponsored summit on information, communication and the information society, which has been taking place since 2003.

WSIS Prizes is a unique international contest developed in response to requests from the WSIS stakeholders to create an effective mechanism to evaluate and recognize for outstanding success in ICT. The contest was held for the first time in 2012, and rapidly gained popularity within the ICT community. The WSIS Prizes is the unique global platform to identify and showcase success stories in the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines outlined in the Geneva Plan of Action and UN Sustainable Development Goals. Since inception, the contest of WSIS Prizes has attracted more than 300.000 stakeholders.

This year 83 countries presented 449 projects to struggle to become a winner in their category. The two projects carried out by Azerbaijan company B.EST Solutions, the operator of Asan İmza Mobile ID are presented in two of 18 categories. So, the project “Asan İmza - Azerbaijan national Mobile eID and legally binding e-signature”, carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Taxes, is presented in the Category «ICT Applications: E-Government», and the project “Digital Trade Hub of Azerbaijan”, carried our along with Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan is presented in the Category « ICT Applications: E-Business». All the nominated projects have a detailed description, and everybody can vote for the national innovative projects of Azerbaijan after the registration in the system on official site of the contest https://www.itu.int/net4/wsis/prizes/2018/.

The first five most voted projects will be selected for the further announcement of the winners in each of the 18 categories. It should be noted that winning projects of the last year’s contest were presented by Africa, Asia, North America and Europe. Noteworthy is the fact that projects presented by B.EST Solutions were first presented in such prestigious contest and have been shortlisted for the nomination. This is another proof that the innovative solutions “Made in Azerbaijan” fully comply with the world standards.
