November 6, Fineko/abc.az. During the online summit of the contact group on combating the Covid-19 pandemic of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member countries, held on 4 May 2020, President Ilham Aliyev took the initiative to convene the 31st special session of the UN General Assembly dedicated to combating Covid-19, and the initiative was supported by the overwhelming majority of the UN member states, ABC.AZ reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.

UN General Assembly’s special session dedicated to the Covid-19 pandemic was convened on 10 July 2020 and the relevant decisions were made about the governing structures of the special session.

According to the resolution, based on the initiative put forward by the Azerbaijani president on behalf of the NAM member countries, a decision was made to hold a special session of the UN General Assembly on 3-4 December  2020 at the level of heads of state and government, dedicated to the fight against Covid-19.
