Central bank raised discount rate to 7.75%

15:37 - 18.03.2022

March 18, Fineko/abc.az. By the decision of Central Bank’s board the discount rate is set at 7.75%, the lower threshold of the interest rate corridor is set at 6.25%, the upper one is 9.25%.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the Central Bank that although the annual inflation rate in the country has decreased since the last meeting, fundamental changes in the geopolitical and geo-economic environment have significantly increased the uncertainty associated with the external background of inflation.

The new situation with uncertain dynamics has increased global inflationary risks at a time when the impact of the pandemic on the global economy, trade, employment and financial markets has partially stabilized.

Since the end of February the prices of world commodities, especially energy and grain, have updated historical records, which has had a significant impact on the medium-term forecasts of global inflation and the prospects of its passability for the national economy.

Under these conditions, the potential for the impact of the price level in the country's economy on rising import prices has significantly increased.
