Charles Michel called Ilham Aliyev

July 4, Fineko/abc.az. EU Council’s president Charles Michel called Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

ABC.AZ reports that the issues related to the Brussels agenda were discussed during the conversation.

Michel stressed the importance for the EU of ensuring stability, peace and security in the South Caucasus. He stated that the EU will continue its efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, sign a peace treaty, delimit borders and open transport and communication lines.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed a hope that the trilateral meetings held on the initiative and with the participation of Michel and the agreements reached within their framework will lead to results on the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations and the signing of a peace treaty, the delimitation and demarcation of borders, the opening of transport and communication routes.

He also noted the large-scale problem of anti-personnel mines that Azerbaijan has faced in the territories liberated from occupation, and stressed the importance of clarifying the fate of about 4,000 Azerbaijanis who have been missing since the first Armenian-Azerbaijani war.
