Georgia increases flour purchases from Russia

August 22, Fineko/abc.az. Georgia bought 99% of its wheat flour and 86% of wheat from Russia in the first half of this year. This year flour purchases from Russia have grown sharply. And purchases of wheat were significantly reduced.

According to ABC.AZ, thus, Russia has become the only monopoly country in the supply of wheat flour and grain to Georgia.

According to Georgia's National Statistics Service, in January-July this year, Georgia purchased 48,300 tons of wheat worth $17 million from Russia. During the reporting period, 95,725 tons of flour worth $36.2 million were imported into Georgia. Almost 99 % of this was purchased in Russia. Compared to the same period in 2021, flour imports increased by 895.6%, and in monetary terms - by 1174.6%.

The countries from which Georgia imports flour include Turkiye, Italy, Kazakhstan and other countries.
