August 23, Fineko/abc.az. Europe is experiencing its worst drought in 500 years, according to a preliminary analysis by experts from the European Union (EU) Joint Research Centre.

ABC.AZ reports that according to the European Drought Observatory, a drought warning or a state of emergency has been declared in 64% of the countries of the European Union (EU).

The hot weather and drought that led to fires and reduced crop yields are expected to continue in some areas until November, according to the association's experts.

“A severe drought and heatwave have created unprecedented stress on EU water levels. Climate change is undoubtedly becoming more visible every year,” EU Commissioner for Research Maria Gabriel said on Tuesday.
