September 1, Fineko/abc.az. Italy is Azerbaijan's number one trading partner, ABC.AZ reports, citing President Ilham Aliyev at the opening ceremony of the Italian-Azerbaijani University in Rome.

The head of state noted that last year our trade turnover amounted to $9.6 bn, and for the first 7 months of this year it reached $11 bn. President Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan will become a strategic partner of Italy in the field of education in the future.

"Today's ceremony shows that in the future we will act as a strategic partner (for Italy) in the field of education. It is no secret that the development of each country is determined not by natural resources, but by knowledge, literacy and technological progress. In Azerbaijan, we direct the income received from natural resources to human capital, and today's event is a vivid confirmation of that," he emphasized.
