September 8, Fineko/abc.az. The Caspian Sea is rapidly becoming shallow due to global climate change. Tens of kilometers of the once seabed under the scorching sun turned into a dried surface.

The head of the Department of Geomorphology of the Coasts and Bottom of the Caspian Sea at the Institute of Geography named after Academician G. Aliyev, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Prof. Amir Aliyev said about this in an interview for Russian TV channel Russia 1.

A. Aliyev stressed that by the end of this century the Caspian Sea may become very shallow, the water level will drop by 9 m and even 18 m.

"This means that the reservoir will lose 34% of the territory. This is a big problem for all countries with access to the sea, and Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Russia, Turkmenistan will have to solve it together."
