ABC.AZ reports that Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev said this during a meeting with the diplomatic corps in the administrative building of the Azerbaijani Foreign Affairs Ministry.

He noted that during the occupation, the environment of Azerbaijan was damaged, natural resources were illegally exploited, and this is now observed in the territories that are under the temporary control of Russian peacekeepers.

"We’ve observed intensive illegal exploitation of the Gizilbulag and Demirli fields. This issue was studied by the relevant structures of Azerbaijan, and the Ministry of Defense appealed to the command of the Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh. The first meeting with the leadership of the Russian peacekeepers took place in Khojali, and on 10 December, monitoring of the relevant structures in Gizilbulag was agreed. This illegal activity must be stopped, environmental damage must be assessed and an appropriate program developed," Hajiyev emphasized.
