March 31, Fineko/abc.az. Israel has launched a pilot project to plant apples, pomegranates, cherries, peaches and nectarines in Azerbaijan, ABC.AZ reports with reference to the Israeli Embassy in Azerbaijan.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Israeli Agency for International Development Cooperation (MASHAV) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

For this purpose, demonstration fields were allotted for intensive fruit orchards in the educational and experimental farm of the Azerbaijan State Agrarian University.

As part of the pilot project, 3,400 fruit trees were planted on a total area of 2.5 hectares.

"These modern orchards will allow University’s students and staff to gain practical knowledge and skills to create and manage intensive fruit orchards more productive, efficient and sustainable than traditional orchards, using the most advanced and effective methods.

These gardens, equipped with modern drip irrigation systems, will support the development of the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan, which is important for increasing rural incomes and creating strong and sustainable communities,” the Embassy said.
