July 4, Fineko/abc.az. The Italian authorities have frozen accounts, movable and immovable property and other assets of Russians and Belarusians in the amount of about €2 bn in connection with the EU-imposed sanctions.
ABC.AZ reports that Enzo Serata, the head of the Italian Financial Information Department, said about this.
"At the end of this June, 170 financial transactions in the names of 80 entities were frozen. The total amount of frozen funds is more than €330 million," Serata said, in particular.
The European Commission has repeatedly stated since 2022 that the existing European legislation does not allow the confiscation of foreign assets frozen as a result of unilateral EU restrictions and their transfer to another person or state. At that, since the summer of 2022 the European Commission has begun active work on changing European norms to make confiscation of such funds legal. According to the European Commission, about €200 bn of assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and nearly €24 bn of private funds are blocked in the EU.
