Burnt-out Ferrari 500 Mondial sold for $1.9 million

August 23, Fineko/abc.az. A rare 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial Spider Series I was sold for  $1,875,000 for RM Sotheby's in United States.

ABC.AZ reports, citing the auction house, that such a high price is explained by the rarity of the model - only 10 racing Ferrari 500 Mondial Spider Series I were produced. This is an atypical model of the brand, because it has a four-cylinder engine, instead of V12. This 2.0-liter engine from a Formula 2 car developed 170 HP and allowed to accelerate to 240 kmh.

The car was actively used to participate in the most famous races of that time, including the Italian Grand Prix, Mille Miglia and Targa Florio. In 1958, the new owner moved the sports car to the USA, where he also actively raced, but with American V8 instead of Aurelio Lampredi’s four-cylinder engine. Here the Ferrari 500 Mondial Spider ended its career: in the early 1960s, the sports car had a serious accident, which resulted in a fire.
