EU to allocate €400 million to Türkiye

September 18, Fineko/abc.az. The European Union is to allocate €400 million of financial assistance to Türkiye to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake, ABC.AZ reports, referring to the EU Council.

The EU Council has accepted the proposal of the European Commission to allocate €454.8 million for disaster relief in such countries as Türkiye, Romania, and Italy.

Financial aid will be allocated from the EU budget for 2023.

"Out of the total amount of financial assistance, €33.9 million will be allocated to Romania to combat severe and widespread drought; €20.9 million to Italy to help deal with the consequences of floods affecting the central regions of the country in September 2022. In addition, €400 million are intended to assist Türkiye in connection with major earthquakes that occurred in the south of the country in the regions of Kahramanmarash and Hatay in February 2023," the EU Council said in a statement.
