Prices for exported Azerbaijani hazelnuts increased

September 18, Fineko/abc.az. In connection with the processes taking place on the world market of hazelnuts, an increase in prices for Azerbaijani hazelnuts supplied to foreign markets has been recorded, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Ismail Orujev, the chairman of the Association of Producers & Exporters of Hazelnuts of Azerbaijan.

He added that the price of hazelnuts is mainly adapted to prices on the world market. He noted that after the forecast of prices for dried fruits was given at the annual International Hazelnut Congress, a sharp change in the weather, prolonged rains in the regions producing hazelnuts reduced yields:

"1.2 million tons of unpeeled nuts are produced annually in the world. Decrease in product quality due to excess precipitation also automatically disrupts the balance of supply and demand. Therefore, compared to last year, the global hazelnut market is experiencing a price increase of about 10-15 percent this year, and it is possible that a slight price increase will occur again in the near future. It is necessary to take into account other factors affecting the pricing policy. There is no increase in prices for dried fruits that compete with hazelnuts. For example, there is a sharp decline in prices for walnuts and almonds. In fact, if the prices of competing products were not low, the prices of hazelnuts could rise more.”
