September 28, Fineko/abc.az. Ruben Vardanyan has been brought to justice as an accused, ABC.AZ reports, referring to the State Security Service of Azerbaijan.

Based on the collected evidence, solid suspicions of criminal acts of Ruben Vardanyan, born in 1968, who is currently a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, were revealed in accordance with Articles 214-1 (financing of terrorism), 279.3 (participation in the creation and activities of armed formations or groups not provided for by law) and 318.1 (organization of illegal arrival of a foreigner or a person stateless to the Republic of Azerbaijan) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

According to the charge against him, it was established that Ruben Vardanyan, being a foreign citizen, in order to commit terrorist and provocative actions in September 2022, illegally crossed the state border of Azerbaijan bypassing checkpoints, entered the territory of temporary accommodation of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh Economic Region of Azerbaijan, took part in the formation and activities of armed formations not envisaged by the legislation of Azerbaijan, and also participated in the supply of weapons, ammunition, explosives, military equipment and army supplies to these illegal military formations, which carried out attacks on departments, organizations and individuals, which led to the death of people and other serious consequences.

In addition, Vardanyan took part in the financing of terrorism, allocating funds for organization of terrorist activities of these illegal armed groups. For illegal actions committed, Vardanyan was detained on September 27, 2023 and brought to criminal responsibility as an accused. A preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen against him by a court decision. Investigative and operational measures are ongoing on the criminal case.
