July 10, Fineko/abc.az. New power substations are to be built in Baku and districts of the country.

Addressing to the Cabinet’s meeting the country’s leader said that the accident at the Mingachevir Thermal Power Plant shows that there are very big problems and miscalculations in the energy sector.

"I want to say again that, the entire energy system can not fail because of one accident. An accident can happen, it can be caused by various causes, accidents occur even in the most developed countries, cities, they lead to serious consequences and victims. We know about that from recent history and dozens of people die during such accidents. But one local crash should not cause to failure of the general energy system. There can be no explanation for this. And I don't accept any explanation. The Commission working today will give its opinion in the near future. At the same time, a group of experts has been sent to Mingachevir and they will also have their say. Of course, we need to know exactly what caused the accident. Why did this accident put our energy system in such a state?! We will get the answer to this question. But according to preliminary data, the cause is - of course, I do not want to be ahead of the Commission's conclusion, which is why I don’t want to express my opinion on this issue - that even the stations put into operation in recent years are not operating at full capacity. It is necessary to investigate the cause of that, it is likely that mistakes were made during their operation," President Aliyev said.

He points out that this accident is a very serious signal. Currently, work related to structural reforms is underway in the energy system. Such instruction has been given. The question of inspection of the entire energy sector finds its solution. This matter will be discussed in the Commission, and the proposals will be presented.

"We must manage the energy system of Azerbaijan on the most modern basis. We have enough power generation capacity. Substations have been built and will be built. An instruction has already been given, this year and next year the construction of new substations will be provided both in Baku and in the districts of the country. Additional finances are allocated for modernization of energy farms built in the Soviet era. We allocate funds, but the main thing is that these funds should be used rationally and a system should be built that would ensure energy stability," the head of state noted.
