Drop in Caspian Sea water level to negatively affect operation of ports

17:03 - 27.11.2023

November 27, Fineko/abc.az. If the trend of falling water levels in the Caspian Sea continues after 2023, the production capacities of ports, in particular, the ports of Aktau and Alat, will be under threat.

ABC.AZ reports that according to WB’s special report, at present the water level in the sea is particularly low, which increases the problems associated with navigation at the approaches to ports and the work of ships at the berths.

"Many vessels in the Caspian Sea can no longer operate at full capacity," the report emphasizes.

In this context, the WB has launched a series of studies, the first results of which will be available in mid-2024 and completed in early 2025.
