December 14, Fineko/abc.az. Zaur Aliyev, the chairman of the State Agency for Compulsory Medical Insurance, believes that doctors working in public hospitals should receive salary of at least 1,000 manats.

ABC.AZ reports that according to Aliyev, this is one of the main goals. He stressed that currently therapists receive an average of about 1,600 manats along with additional bonuses.

He added that surgeons and ophthalmologists have a slightly higher amount: "This is lower than in other countries. Many prices have increased in the package of services. The amounts paid by the institution within the services to hospitals are credited as a bonus to the surgeon performing these operations. Surgeons, of course, receive a relatively large salary. It depends on the prices of the expensive operations they perform."

Responding to accusations on social media that doctors receive salaries of 60,000 manats, Zaur Aliyev said that this may apply to some highly qualified surgeons: "There are very few surgeons who can receive this amount, along with bonuses for the expensive operations they perform, a single tariff schedule and monthly fixed allowances."
