February 23, Fineko/abc.az. In Azerbaijan, municipalities of villages with fewer than 1,000 houses will be merged.

ABC.AZ reports that this is reflected in the amendment to the Law on Unification, Division, Abolition of Municipalities & their Activity.

Under the amending draft, the municipalities of villages with fewer than 1,000 houses will be abolished and larger municipalities will be created.

Thus, the number of municipalities in Azerbaijan will be reduced to 500.

There are currently 1,605 municipalities in the country.

In compliance with the proposal of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the Bill has been submitted to Milli Majlis.
