Livestock farming expands in Eastern Zangezur

March 11, Fineko/abc.az. Animal husbandry is booming in the Eastern Zangezur Economic Region.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee that in 2023, the number of cattle in the territory of the economic region reached 97,024 heads, including 41,168 heads in Kelbajar, 35,579 ones in Lachin and 10,942 in Jabrayil, 7,533 in Zangilan district.

The highest dynamics was observed in Zangilan district. The number of cattle in the district grew by 41% year-on-year. In Zangilan, 5,946 animals belong to enterprises engaged in agriculture. And 41,062 heads of cattle in Lachin belong exclusively to family farms.

The number of sheep and goats in the territory of the economic region increased by 3.3% up to 454,938 heads. Kelbajar accounts for 178,156 heads of sheep and goats, Lachin — 164,818 heads, Jabrayil — 86,114 heads.
