March 13, Fineko/abc.az. Nearly 160,000 hectares of land fell into disrepair in Azerbaijan because of shortage of water in 2023.

ABC.AZ reports that Agriculture Minister Majnun Mammadov said this at the opening ceremony of international conference Baku Water Week.

"About 70% of the world's water resources are used in agriculture, and Azerbaijan is no exception in this sense," the minister said.

Azerbaijan should take the challenge of global climate change seriously, the minister believes.

"There are about 1.5 million hectares of irrigated areas in Azerbaijan, 78% of which are annual crops, 9% are perennial and 13% fall on irrigated pastures."

Mammadov added that about 90% of the agricultural products produced in the country come from irrigated fields," Mammadov said.
