March 14, Fineko/abc.az. Several pharmaceutical enterprises are expected to be put into operation in Azerbaijan in the near future.

ABC.AZ reports that Milli Majlis MP Ahliman Amiraslanov said about this at today's meeting of the Health Committee he heads.

Amiraslanov noted that the amendments to the Law on Medicines gave an impetus to development of the pharmaceutical industry, and several drug manufacturing enterprises have already been put into operation.

"It is expected that such enterprises will be put into operation in the near future. Not only Azerbaijani entrepreneurs, but also well-known global companies are involved in the creation of enterprises for the production of medicines. The commissioning of these enterprises will reduce the import of medicines, as well as create conditions for lowering prices for them," he added.

The MP noted that stricter controls help prevent the sale of substandard and expired medicines in pharmacies.

Amiraslanov added that the amendments to the Law on Medicines adopted last June contributed to solving most of the problems: "Of course, not all problems can be solved quickly, but we are seeing positive dynamics. I hope that in the near future the problems of high prices and expired medicines will be completely eliminated."
