July 22, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. presidential candidate from the Republican Party, Donald Trump, claims that if he wins the election, he can impose duties on Chinese cars in the amount of 100-200%.
ABC.AZ reports that when speaking at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Trump said that on his first day as president he would repeal the requirement adopted by the administration of Democrat Joe Biden, according to which by 2032 most new cars sold in the U.S. must be equipped with an electric motor. This, he said, "will save the American automotive industry from total destruction".
"Right now, big factories are being built in Mexico," the Republican continued, arguing that "China is building them to make cars and sell them in the United States". "They are building some of the largest factories in the world," Trump said, saying he intends to bring car manufacturing back to the U.S.
"These plants will be built in the USA, and our people will work for them. And if they do not agree, then we will impose duties of about 100-200% on each car, and it will become impossible to sell them in the U.S," he stressed.
