August 22, Fineko/abc.az. The 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), set to take place in Baku this November, is poised to be a significant test for Azerbaijan's tourism sector.

According to ABC.AZ, as the capital city prepares to welcome an estimated 80,000 to 140,000 tourists during the event, hotel prices have soared to unprecedented levels.

A dedicated online platform, cop29-accommodation-bnetwork, created to handle hotel bookings for COP29 attendees, currently features 81 hotels, mostly 2-star and even 1-star establishments. However, the prices even for these budget accommodations are staggering.

For instance, the Consul Hotel, located between the Ganjlik and Narimanov metro stations, is charging $165 per room per night, equivalent to 280 manats. Prices for 2-star hotels start from $150-$160, with most hotels charging between $300-$500. The most expensive 2-star hotel currently listed is priced at $583 per night, or nearly 1,000 manats.

Another notable aspect is that due to COP29, rooms are only available for a minimum of 11 nights. This means that staying at the aforementioned hotel for the duration of the event would cost $6,413, or roughly 11,000 manats.
