European countries sharply reduces purchases of hazelnuts from Azerbaijan

August 29, Fineko/abc.az. The largest buyers of Azerbaijani hazelnuts after Russia - European countries - have reduced their purchase volumes this year.

European countries bought 1,887 tons of shelled nuts in the first half of 2024, ABC.AZ reports citing the State Statistics Committee. The purchase value amounted to only $13.91 million, a decrease of 2,735 tons (59%) in volume year-on-year.

Germany, the largest buyer of Azerbaijani hazelnuts in Europe, reduced its export volume by 60% to 900 tons (worth $6.88 million).

While the export volumes of shelled hazelnuts to Europe decreased sharply, the reduction to Russia was only 7%. Thus, in the past half-year, only 5,236 tons (worth $31.28 million) of nuts were sold to this country.

Russia's share over the past year has increased from 48% to 65%.
