September 9, Fineko/abc.az. In Azerbaijan, in order to combat climate change and expand the use of "green" technologies, work is underway to determine the scope of application of environmental and "green" taxes, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov as saying this at conference "The Role of SMEs in the Green Economy", held in Baku with the support of the Ministries of Economy, Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as the Agency for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Businesses.
The minister added that international best practices are being studied in this area, the possibility of applying a "carbon tax" or a similar tax to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is being considered, and appropriate consultations are underway with the World Bank.
Jabbarov noted that one of the measures to support the "green" economy can be considered industrial parks, especially the Balakhani Industrial Park, specializing in waste recycling.
"The park serves to expand the production of competitive industrial products based on high technologies in the country, develop the non-oil sector, increase employment in the field of production, improve the environmental situation in Baku and nearby settlements. Taking advantage of these opportunities, our businessmen will be able to build innovative production facilities that meet advanced tasks," the minister said.
