September 12, Fineko/abc.az. Ukraine's refusal to extend the agreement on the transit of Russian natural gas will lead to its supply to Europe through Türkiye via the Turkish Stream main gas pipeline. The volumes may amount to about 16 bcm a year, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
According to Bayraktar, Ukraine's refusal to transit Russian gas may lead to higher prices in Europe.
"We are working on diversifying gas sources and on additional gas supplies to Europe," Bayraktar added.
The decision not to extend the contract with Gazprom for gas transit, which expires at the end of 2024, was announced by Ukrainian Preisdent Vladimir Zelensky, to which Russian president’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia has alternative supply routes to Europe through Türkiye as part of the project to create a gas hub on the territory of the republic.
