September 27, Fineko/abc.az. In the first 6 months of Javier Miley's presidency, the poverty rate in Argentina reached 53%. Before that, the figure was about 41.5%.
ABC.AZ reports that according to State Statistics Agency’s estimates, more than 5 million people crossed the poverty line during this time.
Government spokesman Manuel Adorni stressed that the new leadership inherited a "catastrophic situation" from the previous authorities. He accused Miley's predecessors of rampant spending that led to the current situation.
The Associated Press reports that the new president has managed to reduce monthly inflation from 23% in December to 4% in recent months. However, the annual rate still exceeds 230% — one of the highest in the world.
