September 30, Fineko/abc.az. Chinese concern BYD and the State Administration for Market Regulation of China have announced a recall campaign, which has already been called the largest in the history of the concern.
ABC.AZ reports with reference to CarNewsChina that the threat of spontaneous combustion was found on 96,714 cars of the Doplhin and Yuan Plus models. The recalled electric cars were released between November 2022 and December 2023.
The supplier of the defective component was named as the culprit of the potential danger — an incorrectly-assembled controller of steering column electric booster was used on the recalled cars. The cover of its housing is deformed, which is why it fits too tightly to the capacitors on the controller board. Due to this, microcracks can form on them during movement. Over time, they expand, which provokes the risk of a short circuit and subsequent fire.
Controller repairs will be free for owners.
Previously, BYD had not recorded such extensive service campaigns, while the number of cars in need of repair may increase further.
BYD actively supplies both Dolphin and Yuan Plus abroad, which is sold outside China as Atto 3.
