FT: Ukrainian company Energoatom hardly be able to raise billions for construction of nuclear reactors

October 1, Fineko/abc.az. Energoatom (Ukraine) will not be able to attract billions of dollars for the construction of new nuclear reactors because of corruption scandals, ABC.AZ reports, referring to Financial Times.

Ukraine's three operating nuclear power plants generate almost half of the country's electricity, but two reactors will need to be replaced in 10 years.

In January 2024, Ukrainian Energy Minister Galushchenko announced that Energoatom would begin construction of four new reactors.

However, as FT journalists write, it is unlikely that a company involved in corruption scandals will be able to raise billions of dollars needed for this project. Galushchenko's plan to purchase old Russian technologies in Bulgaria for $600 million was halted after protests by MPs this summer.
