S Korea has built the ‘largest energy storage facility in Asia’

October 2, Fineko/abc.az. The ceremony on the occasion of completion of construction of the "largest in Asia" battery energy storage system has been held in South Korea. It is located in the city of Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do province.

ABC.AZ reports that capacity of the facility is 978 MW, the capacitance - 889 MWH.

The $632 million project was implemented by the energy company KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corp) with participation of 13 partners, including Hyosung Heavy Industries, LS Electric, HD Hyundai Electric, Samsung SDI and LG Energy Solution.

The largest energy storage system was built in accordance with the 9th Electric Power Industry Development Plan, according to which by 2034 the share of renewable energy sources in the installed capacity of the South Korean energy system should be about 40%.

The new drive will provide frequency control services and ensure the stability of the power system.
