OpenAI predicts loss of $5 bn by end of 2024

October 2, Fineko/abc.az. OpenAI, a startup specializing in development of artificial intelligence, expects significant losses in 2024, despite projected revenue growth over the next 5 years.

ABC.AZ reports that according to documents reviewed by the New York Times, the company expects that in 2024 its revenue will reach $3.7 billion, of which $2.7 billion will be received from proprietary chatbot ChatGPT, launched in 2022.

The main cost item of the company is the computing power provided by Microsoft's partner and main investor.

Losses are explained by the costs of maintaining the operation of services and other items such as salary payments and office rent. As ChatGPT's user base grows, waste increases, so investments will be required in 2025, OpenAI thinks.

However, despite this, OpenAI's monthly revenue reached $300 million in August, which is 1,700% more than at the beginning of 2023.

Growth will continue, and company's revenue is projected to more than triple in 2025 to $11.6 billion and eventually reach $100 billion in 2029.
