October 14, Fineko/abc.az. Chinese scientists have carried out the "world's first effective attack" on a widely used encryption algorithm using a quantum computer.

ABC.AZ reports that SCMP writes about this.

The breakthrough poses a "real and significant threat" to a long-used password protection mechanism that is used in critical sectors like banking and the military, the researchers say.

A group led by Wang Chao from Shanghai University used a quantum computer from the Canadian company D-Wave Systems. It was used to crack algorithms Present, Gift-64 and Rectangle. They represent the SPN structure, which forms the basis of the advanced AES encryption standard, which is used in the military and financial fields, as well as crypto wallets.

Wang's article talks about the use of quantum annealing technology as an analogue of an artificial intelligence algorithm capable of optimizing problem solving on a global scale.
