December 4, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. has extended Iraq's permission to receive electricity from Iran for 120 days.
ABC.AZ reports, quoting principal deputy spokesperson of the U.S. Department of State Vedant Patel.
The U.S. Department of State, despite its commitment to reducing Iran's harmful influence in the region, allows Iraq, which does not have sufficient generating capacity, to import Iranian electricity.
According to Patel, a stable, sovereign and secure Iraq is crucial to limit Iran's influence in the Middle East.
According to the Department of State, the 120-day extension of the permit was the 23rd in a row since 2018. For its part, the Iraqi government currently sees no alternatives to stop or replace energy imports from the Islamic Republic.
