December 13, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan proposes to expand the list of grounds for exemption from conscription for military service.

ABC.AZ reports that the relevant amendments to the Law on Military Duty & Military Service will be considered by the Milli Majlis.

According to the amendments, they are exempt from conscription for military service and transferred to the reserve:

- citizens with academic degrees of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Sciences;

- conscripts deemed unfit for military service in peacetime and limited in wartime for health reasons;

- persons who have not completed military service for various reasons before the age of 30;

- persons who have completed military service or who have been exempted from conscription in accordance with the legislation of the country of which they were citizens before becoming citizens of  Azerbaijan or recognition of belonging to the citizenship of Azerbaijan (with exception of persons whose both parents were citizens of  Azerbaijan at the time of birth);

- persons sentenced to imprisonment for a certain term or for life for serious or especially serious crimes;

- persons whose citizenship of Azerbaijan has been terminated.
