Large companies in UAE should report on CO2 emissions

17:36 - 27.12.2024

December 27, Fineko/abc.az. From December 28, 2024, companies in the UAE that emit more than 500,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year will have to keep records and report on their emissions.

ABC.AZ informs that this is the first country in the Middle East to introduce such a monitoring system.

The new requirements are part of the UAE's ambitious strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. By 2030, the country plans to reduce emissions by 23.5% compared to the "business as usual" scenario.

To achieve these goals, a new tool was launched in December 2023 that allows tracking not only greenhouse gases, but also other pollutants. Currently, annual CO2 emissions from fuel combustion and industry in the UAE amount to nearly 206 million tons. Mandatory reporting may be the first step towards establishing a carbon trading system.
