January 14, Fineko/abc.az. Mexico's Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development (SADER) has emphasized the country's commitment to preserving the biodiversity of native corn and maintaining the ban on the cultivation of genetically modified (GMO) corn.
ABC.AZ reports that SADER Minister Julio Berdege emphasized that the protection of local maize varieties, which represent a critical reservoir of global genetic biodiversity, is essential to address climate change and ensure sustainable agriculture.
Despite the arid conditions in some regions caused by climate change, Berdege assured that there is enough GMO-free white corn in Mexico. Favorable rainfall in central states such as Jalisco and Michoacan contributed to good harvests, as reported by producers.
