Virus found in tomatoes from Turkmenistan

January 16, Fineko/abc.az. The virus was detected during an inspection of a batch of tomatoes imported in Azerbaijan from Turkmenistan.

ABC.AZ informs, citing the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan (AQTA), that samples taken from a 9,000 kg batch of the product imported by Dəmir Yumruq-A LLC from Turkmenistan revealed the presence of the “Brown wrinkled tomato fruit virus".

The infected batch of products was destroyed.

"The virus detected during the inspection can cause economic damage. This virus is not dangerous to human health, it poses a serious risk to the products of the solanaceae family, as it is capable of destroying up to 80% of the crop," the agency said.
