Croatia shows an interest in expanding economic cooperation with Azerbaijan

September 7, Fineko/abc.az. Croatia is interested in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of pharmaceuticals, energy, shipbuilding, agriculture and information technology.

At a press conference following talks between the Croatian and Azerbaijani leaders President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic stated that the current state of economic cooperation is not yet at the desired level, but the joint commission plays an important role in promoting economic cooperation.

"Our countries have a joint commission on economic cooperation. The main objective of its work is to propose and implement bilateral projects. The commission held its last meeting in Baku, and its next meeting is likely to start work in the near future," the Croatian president said.

She pointed out that special attention should be paid to the pharmaceutical and energy sectors.

"Today, we talked about expansion of this cooperation, in particular, in the pharmaceutical sector. In this regard, our companies can establish a joint venture between Croatia and Azerbaijan. Thanks to this, our pharmaceutical companies will have the opportunity to enter Central Asia and, in general, in the Caspian basin region, including be able to carry out activities in Azerbaijan. Naturally, this will also contribute to the development of our trade relations," she added.

The Croatian president stressed that her country is interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of shipbuilding.

"At the same time, there is important work in the shipbuilding sector as well. We had a discussion on six vessels. I hope our negotiations in this regard will continue, and we’ll be able to use fully the business potential with Azerbaijan," the Croatian leader said.

She also voiced a hope for expansion of cooperation in the field of agriculture, information technology, and food processing.
