ABC.AZ reports that the figure is 22.2% more against 2023, when 16,430 people were deported.
The first among those deported were citizens of Turkey, Georgia and Afghanistan. Last year, 1,720 Turks, 1,678 Georgians and 1,361 Afghans were sent to their countries. At the end of 2023, Germany named Georgia as a safe country of origin.
Safe countries of origin are countries where there is no risk of exposing people to danger or inhumane behavior. This is considered to be the main factor when considering migration applications.
Last year, there was a significant decrease in the number of asylum seekers from Germany. According to the data of the Federal Office for Migration & Refugees (BAMF), published on January 9, in 2024, a total of 229,751 people, most of them from Syria, Afghanistan and Turkey, applied for asylum in the country (100,000 fewer people than in 2023).
